What type of services do you offer?
CDHD offers a variety of services for males and females, focusing on reproductive health, which includes; wellness examinations, STI (sexually transmitted infections) evaluation/testing/and treatment, HIV testing, pregnancy testing, birth control, vasectomy, colposcopy, limited immunizations, and school physicals. Learn more by visiting our website.
How much do your services cost?
The majority of our services are offered on a sliding scale fee schedule. That means that your costs are based upon your income. No one will be refused our basic services because of inability to pay at the time of their visit. We accept cash, credit and debit cards, Medicaid, and most insurance plans. Unfortunately, we cannot tell you over the phone or via email what your individual costs will be. You can come in and obtain a cost estimate of usual services.
Do you offer female sterilization (tubal ligation?)
No, this is not a service that we provide due to cost.
What forms of birth control do you offer?
We offer several different forms of birth control (contraceptives) including; many brands of pills, Ortho Evra patch, Nuva Ring, Depo-Provera (the shot), IUD/IUS (intrauterine device/system), diaphragm, spermacide, condom, and fertility awareness. Some of these methods require a prescription which we can fill in our office pharmacy and some are available over-the-counter.
I recently started the birth control pill and have had bleeding in the middle of my cycle. Is that normal?
When you first begin on a birth control method that contains hormones (normally found in your body), it is very common to experience some side effects that include; headache, nausea, breast tenderness, bleeding between periods, or mood swings. By the time you complete your third pack of pills, any side effects should be gone. If you are still having problems at that time, call the clinic and schedule a supply visit.
I have been on birth control for over a year and I am now bleeding/spotting between my periods. Is that normal?
If you have been on your birth control method for awhile, taking it as directed and had normal occurring periods, but now do not, that could be a sign of infection. It is recommended that you schedule a visit with a clinician to better evaluate the problem.
I've been on Depo-Provera and have stopped having my period. Could I be pregnant?
Depo-Provera is a very effective birth control method and prevents pregnancy 99.8% of the time. Therefore pregnancy is very unlikely, a simple pregnancy test could tell us for sure. Typically, women on Depo-Provera experience changes in their menstrual cycles, which includes frequent bleeding or spotting; irregularly spaced periods or no periods. All of these are normal.
The condom we were using last night broke and now I am concerned about getting pregnant. Can I get the morning after pill through you?
Yes, we offer emergency contraception, Monday through Friday. Here is a list of our clinic hours. Emergency contraception reduces the risk of pregnancy up to 89% if taken within 120 hours after unprotected sex. We recommend that it be used as soon as possible after the unprotected sex. If you are 18 years or age or older, emergency contraception is available over the counter at your local pharmacy, but you will have to ask the pharmacist. If you are under 18 years old, a prescription is required.
I am 16 years old and need birth control. Will you tell my parents if I come to your clinic?
When you come to our clinic, your care will be confidential and your parents will not be notified. HIPPA laws prevent any medical clinic from giving any health information about a client to anyone, unless that patient gives written consent. We believe that having your parents or a trusted adult involved in your health care is a valuable asset and encourage you to do so, if at all possible.
How long does it take to get test results back?
Depending on the test performed, most results are available in 7-14 days.
Who will be providing my care when I go to your clinic?
The Reproductive Health Clinic is staffed by nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nurses. A doctor is available for telephone consultation if needed and also sees clients on a referral basis twice a month.
Do you offer vasectomies?
Yes, usually once a month. We collaborate with Residents from the Family Practice Medical Clinic to offer this service. All clients receiving this service must attend a free educational vasectomy class that is offered on the 2nd Monday of each month (due to holidays the date may vary), from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Central District Health Dept.
Do you give the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer?
Both the Reproductive Health and the Immunization programs offer the HPV vaccine. You'll find a fact sheet about it on this page. This vaccine helps to reduce the risk of developing cervical cancer and is available to females between the ages of 9-26. Hepatitis A and B vaccine is also available through Reproductive Health and Immunizations offers a wide spectrum of childhood and adult vaccines.
I am over 50 years old and have not had an examination or Pap test for several years. Can I still come to your clinic?
You may qualify for a special program called "Women's Health Check". This program was established to provide pap testing and mammogram screening to reduce the incidence of cervical and breast cancer.
I brought my teenage child to your clinic, but then I couldn't get any information about the care or treatment that was received. How come?
First of all, congratulations for helping your child access the care that was needed. We encourage parental involvement whenever possible. However, when it comes to divulging medical information about your child, HIPPA laws protect an individual's privacy, unless they expressly consent to release of the information. We recognize that this can be frustrating for a parent, but all medical practices must comply with these laws.
